Regulation of Mitotic Spindle Assembly

My work is currently focused on understanding the regulation and molecular mechanisms of mitotic spindle assembly in human cells.  When a cell divides it must segregate all of its chromosomes equally into two daughter cells.  The mitotic spindle plays an essential role in accurately segregating chromosomes at every cell division.  Perturbations in this process can quickly lead to genomic instability and initiate disease processes, such as cancers.

My approach to investigating this problem is to combine novel genetic approaches in human cells with powerful light microscopy and mass spectrometry techniques to tease apart on a molecular level complex regulation networks involved in mitosis.
