My current research focuses on mammalian cell cortex mechanics and
regulation. Recent evidence
suggests that cortex structural and mechanical properties such as
meshsize, cortex thickness and tension are well defined for a given
cell line and for given environments. This suggests that the cell has
a tight control over the above-mentioned cortex parameters, which
immediately leads to the question of how the cell "senses" and
subsequently "regulates" them. Through a combination of biophysics and
molecular biology, we are investigating the regulatory mechanisms of the cell cortex steady state structure.
